On the spring night of April 30, 1955, the special gift of a loving son was born to Richard Cullen and Bonnie Sue Ray Reeves in Sparta, North Carolina.  As they were entrusted with his care, they proved to be ahead of their time as they decided to present him, Richard Ray Reeves, a special needs child, to the world.  On the bright morning of December 30, 2021, 66 years later, in the same hospital, the beaming light that brought so much joy to the world faded only to shine even more brightly on fairer celestial shores.  Our world has been brighter and better because Rickey Reeves passed through it.

To celebrate his gain and to mourn our loss is his devoted loving mother, Bonnie Sue Ray Reeves who has been constantly by his side.  She is of the home in Independence, Virginia.  Also surviving are three brothers, Cullen and Sarah Reeves, Bill and Sharon Reeves, both of Independence, Virginia and John and Renea Reeves of Mouth of Wilson, VA; one sister, Nancy Reeves of Independence, Virginia; nieces, Hannah Reeves, Molly Mitchell, Cassie and Freddie Adams, Meara Compton; a special cousin, George Black; and a host of other beloved relatives and friends.

In addition to his father, Rick was preceded in death by his sister and childhood best friend, Susan Kay Reeves; his maternal grandparents, Harrison and Faye Ray; and his paternal grandparents, Wayne and Edna Reeves.

Rick enjoyed traveling across the United States.  He enjoyed spending the winter months in Florida with his mom and dad.  He was especially fond of fishing, swimming, bowling, and riding his bike.  He was an avid admirer and collector of flashlights.  He also loved money, one-dollar bills, which he faithfully collected from his Florida neighbors as his fee for taking out the trash!  He loved dogs- but not cats! He greatly promoted recycling!  If the morning paper wasn't finished by noon, Rick recycled it- no exceptions! You could never trust him at a card game or at a board of checkers- winning was of utmost importance- even if cheating was necessary! He loved playing the guitar and dobro.  He was a regular at the Galax Fiddler's convention and was always ready to attend a musical concert.

December 30, 2021 has been a grand day for Rick Reeves who is now whole and perfect.  He finally found his beloved dad, for whom he had been searching and he has once again joined hands with his childhood playmate and sister, Susan. Together, they reside in a perfect paradise, surrounded by a host of family and friends contently awaiting our arrival.

While Rick has always enjoyed the unwavering love, support and dedication of his family throughout his lifetime, his nieces, Meara Compton and Cassie Adams are to be especially commended for their tireless and constant companionship over the past eleven years seeing to Rick's every need.

Services to honor this incredible life will be held on January 8, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel in Independence, VA.  Officiating at the service will be T. C. Boyer, David VanHoy.
