Ricky Earl Bobbitt, age 67, of Independence, VA passed away at his home on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. Ricky was born on March 16, 1958, in Independence to Robert Walter and Mary Ruth Burkins Bobbitt.  He attended Independence High School and worked in the furniture construction business.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Independence for several years. In 1982, following a five-year courtship, he was married to Emma Lou Poole who was a faithful and loving wife for 42 years.  Ricky enjoyed hard work and loved providing for his family.  He always loved older people.  In his retirement years, he operated a lawn care business.  For several years he mowed the church property and maintained it with great devotion as long as his health permitted.  He was a helpful neighbor, always ready to assist when needed.

In addition to his father, Ricky was preceded in death by his infant-firstborn-son, his father, and his nephew Robert Lee Bobbitt, Jr.  He is survived by his wife, Emma Lou Bobbitt of the home; one son, Joseph Earl Bobbitt of Independence; grandson, Landon Todd Bobbitt of Galax, VA; mother, Mary Ruth Bobbitt of Independence; brothers Robert Lee and Emma Bobbitt and Jimmy Dale Bobbitt both of Independence; special nephew, Randolph Poole of Carroll County.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, Feb. 10, 2026, from 5:00-7:00 at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 11, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Doug Flemming and Joseph Bobbitt officiating.  Burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Independence.
