Robert Golden Cox, better known as Junior Cox, age 89, passed away Sunday February 7th at his residence in Independence, Virginia.

He was born in Comer Ketch, Delaware on June 4, 1931 to Edna Belle Miller Cox and Golden Daniel Cox.

Junior served honorably in the U.S. Army and the Air Force. He was a member of Flat Rock Methodist Church and a member of the Galax American Legion.

Surviving is his wife, Zona Cox, of the home. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Anne Cox Mathis. Surviving are his children Ken and Rebecca Ogle of Independence, Virginia and Tim Ogle of Stafford, North Carolina; son-in-law Scotty Mathis of Independence; grandchildren, Courtney and  Lindsey Ogle of North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, Cody and Cassi Mathis of Rhonda, North Carolina, Megan and Chase McCormick of Dobson, North Carolina; great-grandchildren, Lillian McCormick and Raylan Mathis; brother, Ray and Shirley Cox of Galax, Virginia; sisters,  Rubye Bobbitt of Galax, Virginia and Sue and Randall Hawks of Fancy Gap, Virginia; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Greg & Brian Busic.

In addition to his parents and daughter he was preceded in death by his brothers, Billie Joe Cox and Kyle Cox; sisters, Sylvia Cox Fields, Shirley Cox Worrell, and Kay Cox Richardson; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted on Tuesday February 23, at 12:00 noon at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel.  Rev Derrick Cowan and Rev. Bud Pierce officiating. The family will be present from 11:00 until the memorial service.  Mask will be required.  Interment will follow in the Flat Rock United Methodist Church Cemetery.
