Obituary

Robert Joe Stinson age 76, of Galax, Virginia passed away on Feb. 28, 2025, at the Grayson Nursing and Rehab Center in Independence VA. He was born on December 19, 1948, in Charlotte, North Carolina to Robert Lee and Pauline Stephens Stinson. Robert was a self-employed fence builder. He served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict. In his younger years, he was an avid coon hunter. He was a good provider for his family and was always ready for a chocolate milkshake or a Mt. Dew! In recent months, he has expressed his wish to once again be with his parents. His family is greatly comforted in knowing that he has passed from death unto life and is enjoying the joys of his new heavenly home.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Rickey Harris Stinson, and his wife, Bertha Mae Stinson.

He is survived by one son, Rev. Robert B. Stinson (Brandy) of Mt. Holly, NC; three daughters, Jennifer Stiles (Junior) of Galax, VA, Angela Whitlock (James) of Gastonia, NC, and Suzanne Graham of Galax, VA; the mother of his children, Sandy Bachler of Gastonia, NC; eleven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a special nephew, Robert Jason Stinson and a special niece, Carol Stinson also survives. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at 11:00 AM with his son, Rev. Robert B. Stinson officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Grayson VFW Post #7726. Inurnment will follow later at the Oak Grove Methodist Cemetery in Charlotte, NC. Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Independence, VA is serving the Stinson family.
