Ronald Ward Cummings, age, 79, of Independence, Virginia passed on February 5, 2023, at the Woltz Hospice House in Dobson, NC. He was born on September 15, 1943, in Independence to Carl Theodore and Lucile Ward Cummings.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in by his brother, Larry Cummings.

Ron was a businessman in Independence owning and operating Ron's Automotive.  He will be remembered as a kind and humble person.  He was a regular at the Elk Creek Drag Strip.  His '66 SS Chevelle will be long remembered in the area.  Ron was a veteran of the United States Army.  His honorable service will be recognized with Military Honors provided by Grayson County VFW Post #7726 and the United States Army.

He is survived by his wife, Judy S. Cummings of the home; daughter, Holly Cummings of Independence; brother, Greg and Esther Cummings of West Jefferson, NC; sister, Janice Cummings of Clemmons, NC; grandson, Ben Hill of Independence; sister in law, Dolly Moss of Galax, VA; brother in law, Jesse Smith of Mouth of Wilson, VA; special niece, Tiffany Cummings of Walburg, NC; special friends, Dusty Martin and Don Mendes; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at 1:00 at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel with Speaker Jimmy McKnight officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral.  Burial will follow in the Independence Cemetery.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Independence Rescue Squad or Independence Fire Department.
