Ronald Leon Sexton, age 54, of Independence, Virginia passed away at his home on Sunday, June 30, 2024.  He was born in Sparta, North Carolina on February 3, 1970, to Mildred Bobbitt and Leon Sexton who preceded him in death.

Ronald was a much loved and respected citizen of the town of Independence and the counties of Grayson and Carroll.  He has been a long-time member of the Independence Town Council and was elected to the position of Mayor from which he had taken a leave of absence in recent months.  He has been a member of the Independence Rescue Squad for the past 24 years with 16 of those years also serving on the Carroll County Rescue Squad.  His great skill and talent have been appreciated by his patients and co-workers alike.  While Ronald will be remembered for his sense of humor and his extraordinary ability to remain calm and professional in the most challenging situations, his legacy will be his undying dedication to his profession and his unwavering care and concern he had for his fellowman.   His greatest joy was helping people.

He is survived by his brother, Jason Bryce Bobbitt; special aunt, Lockey Kirk of Independence, VA; uncle, Scott and Betty Sexton of Comers Rock, VA; aunt, Gardella Sexton of Independence, VA; his much loved cousins, Michelle Cody, Daniel Barrios, David Mack Sexton, Jane Sexton, Bobby Kirk, Michael Kirk, Teresa Jennings, Ellen Renegar, David Kirk,  Daniel Kirk, Leslie Wolford and Lynne Lankford and a host of extended family, co-workers, and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted on July 9, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home chapel with speakers David Kirk and David VanHoy.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service from 10:00-11:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Saddle Creek Cemetery.  Members of the Independence Town Council and the Independence and Carroll County Rescue Squads will serve as pall bearers and honorary pallbearers.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Independence Rescue Squad at PO Box 217 Independence, VA 24348 or to the Carroll County Rescue Squad (address pending).
