Obituary

Ronnie Gene Spurlin Sr., age 70, of Independence,VA, the Pine Mountain community, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on Thursday, February 3, 2022. He was born April 13, 1951 and was one of seven children born to Jesse and Gladys (Catron) Spurlin. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Russel and Larry Spurlin and his sisters, Shirley Spurlin, Judy Bennett, and Dorine Butash.

Left to cherish his memory is one brother Jesse Aaron Spurlin of Sarasota, Florida; two sons, Ronnie Spurlin Jr.(Summer) of Colonial Beach,VA and Shane Spurlin of Independence VA.; one daughter, Kendra James (Marquis) of Fredericksburg, VA; ten grandchildren, Kayla, Kaylee, K Sea, Ryan, Allie, and Elijah Spurlin, Devin, Deon, Alyssa, and Dezmond James; and two great-grandchildren.
Ronnie will always be remembered for his dedication towards his business and to his family. He was the proud owner of his Auto-Collision business, Spurln's Collision Center, of Galax, VA.  He was in the auto body business for over 50 years. Ronnie loved his family and enjoyed life with them. He always found time for a pig roast or a fish fry and loved having everyone come together for food and fellowship.
Ronnie had much to be proud of in life; aside from his children and his business, his proudest achievement was serving in the U.S. Army. He served two tours in the Vietnam War with his brother, Russel Spurlin. He was proud to fight for his country which is no surprise as Ronnie was always about helping others.  He and greeted everyone with open arms and witty remarks. He will be greatly missed by friends and family.
Funeral services to honor Ronnie's life will be conducted on Saturday February 12, 2022 at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel in Independence, Virginia. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. - 2 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Hackler Cemetery in the Pine Mountain Community with military honors by the United States Army and the VFW Post 7726.
