Ruby Atwood Harrington Ireson, age 90, of Independence, VA passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at the Grayson Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Independence.  She was born on December 8, 1935, in Jefferson, North Carolina to Alvin and Oma Roten Atwood.  Ruby attended school in Alleghany County.  She was a loyal and faithful employee of Haynes in Sparta, NC and Grayson Garmet in Independence, VA.  She was a member of Pine Fork Baptist Church.  She will be remembered as an excellent cook even though she would much rather spend her time outdoors.  She took great pride in her well-manicured lawn which included her beautiful flower gardens.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Rush  "Butch" Harrington and second husband, Jack Ireson; her son, Charles Randall Harrington; her sister, Betty Shaw, her brother Dale and wife, Elizabeth Atwood, and her nephew Jimmy Atwood.

She is survived by her brother, Dean Atwood of Sparta, NC; nephew, David Shaw of North Carolina; two stepsons, Bob Ireson of North Carolina and David Ireson of Washington DC.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, January 12, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Dean Adams.  The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 prior to the funeral at the funeral home.  Burial will follow in the Salem Cemetery.  Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home is serving the Ireson family.
