With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Maxine, (Mom, Mom-Mom, Aunt Max) on February 8, 2025. She was a loving and devoted mother, aunt and treasured friend who touched the lives of everyone she met. Maxine passed peacefully on that Saturday evening at home at the age of 98. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Dale Young Sr "Bill" and all her siblings.

Survived by children: Judy & Bill Wilkes, Dale & Yoon-Jung Young, Mike & Teri Young, Bob & Cindy Young, Laura & Frank Jones, Steve & Kathy Young, Sue & Russ Delp, and Mary Young Krick.

Grandchildren: Traci & Jason Higgins, Stefani & Dorrian Wilmoth; Chris & Jen Young, Nick & Lindsey Young, Teddy & Krystal Young; Brian & Kate Young, Adam & Kristen Young, Kim & Mike McKisson; Lauren Young & Melissa Fahey, Heather Zibell Iovino; Caitlin & Thaddeus Cawley; Megan Hepler, Erin & Larry Cohick; Daniel Krick , Joey & Maria Krick.

Great Grandchildren: (Judy) Crayton& Colee Higgins; Kaelyn, Keira, Elijah Wilmoth; (Dale) Alyson & Mark Graziano, Ryan, Jake & Noah Young; Nathan, Austin, Samantha & Alex Young; Sophie, Campell, Evelyn & Finley Young; (Mike) Corrine, Marin, Kyle, Landon, Kara, & Paige Zibell; (Bob) Julian, Adelaide, Clara, Luke, Eleanor, William Young; Chloe & Landon Young; Trenton & Hannah McKisson; (Sue) Saxon Hepler; Ben, Jesse, Brianna Cohick; (Mary) Liam & Alex Krick.

Great-Great Grands: Blair and Warren Graziano and Braxton Cohick.

And oh so many nieces and nephews she loved dearly!! Not to mention all the cousins.

Early Life

Born in Grayson County, Virgina on York Ridge on September 3, 1926 at home to her parents, Levi Russell and Laura Etta Moxley VanHoy. The 11th of 13 children she spent most of her young life working on the farm with her siblings, and attended York Ridge School. Some of her favorite stories were about family and growing up in the Great Depression. At 18 she moved with other family members to Edgewood, MD. While the brothers went into the service the sisters worked at the Arsenal as "Bomb Girls", making bombs and other explosive ordinances for the war effort.

Family and Personal Life

Maxine met the love of her life, Bill Young, on the Old Mill Bridge in Mouth of Wilson, VA when a group of young folks met there after attending a Carnival in Independence, VA. They were Married February 28,1946 and spent 62 years together before Bill passed in 2008. Maxine and Bill had 8 children. 4 boys and 4 girls. At the time of her passing Maxine had 14 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. The Youngs moved from Mouth of Wilson to CA but

then moved back to VA to help take care of Bills Mother. Then they all moved to Baltimore County, MD where they spent their remaining years together at Compass Road in Aero Acres.

Church and Community Involvement

Maxine and Bill both were deeply committed to their community and believed in giving back. They were very active members of OREMS UNITED METHODIST CHURCH and Maxine could usually be found in the Church kitchen organizing dinners and gatherings. She was a Lifetime member of the United Methodist Women and a member of the Sarah Circle group. Although she did hold a variety of jobs over the years, her main job was that of a homemaker. Sunday lunches at the Youngs was a favorite of many friends and church members. Maxine enjoyed meeting with her sisters and lady friends in her "Sew Sew" group where they would meet weekly and knit/ crochet or make blankets. Maxine also enjoyed canning. Her children loved to shop at "Youngs Grocery" and get canned goods to remember "home" after they had moved out. Maxine also was a long-term volunteer (30yrs) at the local Mental Health Center in Essex, MD.

Legacy

Maxine's legacy is one of love, kindness, and an enduring compassion for others. We celebrate the remarkable life she led and take comfort in the memories that will forever remain in our hearts.

As one cousin posted on Facebook: Maxine had a long life and was the epitome of love and goodness!

Her fried chicken, biscuits & gravy, canned goods / jams and jellies are legendary!

Funeral Service

A funeral service to honor her will be held Saturday March 15,2025 at 2pm in Mouth of Wilson, VA at Youngs Chapel on Oak Hill Road at the Oak Hill Academy. 1pm visitation prior to service.
