Russell Carol "Pap" Barton was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He passed peacefully in his home at the age of eighty-three.

He was born to Woodrow Bernard Barton and Mary Emiline Billings Barton on May 6,1938 in Grayson County, VA. After graduating from high school, Carol worked as an automotive technician for Southside Dodge in Chesterfield, VA. He married Shirley Jane Hargrave on March 7, 1975 and together they raised their three daughters: Elaine, Donna, and Beverly. He eventually joined the Page Auto Group. He later retired from the company but continued to work as caretaker on his dear friend, Larry Page's estate in Goochland, VA.

After retirement, he moved back to his home in Independence, VA where he enjoyed the fellowship of friends and further developed his antiquing hobby. Carol was an avid car enthusiast, big-game hunter, and collector. He took time to cultivate an eye for beautiful, well made items, from cars and guns to antiques and simple every-day objects. A kind man and great conversationalist, he did not know a stranger and was beloved by all who knew him.

Carol was preceded in death by his wife Shirley, and his parents Woodrow and Mary, and daughter Rhonda Lane. He will be missed by his three daughters, Elaine (Jerry) Osterbind, Beverly (Darrin) Bromseth, Donna (Michael) Taylor, his grandchildren Shane (Angela) Osterbind, Sara (Cory) Chaplin, Mary (Matthew) Johnson, Shannon (Jay) Hopper, Zachary (Emily) Bromseth, and Timothy Taylor, and great-grandchildren Kamryn, Jackson, Amy Lynne, ViviAnne, Ella, Emiline, Mackenzie, Lilly, Layla, and Madelyn.
