Obituary

With heavy hearts, we regretfully announce the passing of Samuel "Sam" Bryant, 36, of Charlotte, NC, who passed away Sunday, March 8, 2026.

Sam was born August 7, 1989, in Galax to Douglas Scott and Katherine Parks Bryant. He attended Galax High School, where he won both individual and team state golf championships. While those accomplishments were significant, the friendships, memories and team championships meant even more to him.  He spent much of his teen years and early adulthood playing at Blue Ridge Country Club, sharing laughs and creating lasting memories with many special friends. He went on to earn a degree in Business Administration from Radford University.

A devoted golf professional, Sam worked as an assistant and head golf professional running operations at clubs including High Meadows Country Club, Reston National Golf Club, Pine Island Country Club (where he spent nearly ten meaningful years), and most recently served as Head Pro at Old Beau Country Club. He was known for his sharp wit, quick quips, and the warm welcome he gave everyone who walked into his pro shops. Sam loved people—going out of his way to help those in need, mentoring staff, and building genuine friendships wherever he worked. His kindness, generosity, and easy humor made him beloved by members, colleagues, and visitors alike.

Outside of golf, Sam developed a deep love of hiking in the Appalachian mountains of western North Carolina and southwest Virginia. He was fiercely devoted to his three dogs—Gracie, Ansley, and Marley—who accompanied him on many mountain outings. Family and friendship were central to Sam's life; his humor and compassionate spirit touched countless people.

He is survived by his parents, Kathy and Doug Bryant; brother, John Bryant (wife Allie); sister, Molly Phillips (husband Chip); niece, Evelyn Phillips; nephew, Milne Phillips; and his dog, Marley.
