Sandra Kay Vaught, age 62, of Independence, VA passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at the Grayson Nursing and Rehab Center in Independence.  She was born on June 26, 1961, in Independence to Ted Malone and Della Rose Ray Vaught. Sandra was an honor graduate and Valedictorian of her 1979 graduating class of Independence High School and earned an associate degree from Wytheville Community College.  She was a member of the Grayson County V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. Sandra will best be remembered for her love of animals, especially her dog, Daizee. She was often involved in working with animal adoptions and fostered many pets throughout her life.  She loved crafts and was always making things to share with her friends.  She was a dedicated fan of the Grayson County Blue Devils.  She attended all ball games and was a loyal fan and supporter of all teams.  She loved her hometown of Independence and was always eager to help promote her community.  Sandra was always willing to share what she had with the less fortunate.  She had a great love for her nieces and nephews and was always involved in their lives.  Sandra loved the Lord, and her daily actions showed it.  She faithfully attended Blue Ridge Fellowship and attended as long as her health permitted.

Sandra is survived by three brothers, Kenneth and Kathy Vaught of Sparta, NC, David and Diane Vaught of Bland, VA, and Mitchell and Lori Vaught of Galax, VA; one sister, Vickie and Bobby Poole of Troutdale, VA; Nephews, William, Jackson, Aaron, Silas and James (on the way); nieces, Lakean, Lyndsey, Emma, Abby, Becky, Layla, Natalie, and Rachel.  She is also survived by a host of friends too numerous to mention.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 PM with her pastor, Rev. Scott Flippin and Rev. David Osborne officiating.  Burial will follow in the Chestnut Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 at the funeral home.
