Shelby Joanne Thompson Combs, 85, passed away on January 23, 2024.

She was born May 21, 1938 in Forsyth County, NC to the late Ernest Virgil and Thelma Messer Thompson, Sr.

Joanne spent her life taking care of others as a nurse assistant and private-duty care aide.  She enjoyed tending her flower gardens, making quilts, and spending time with her family and friends.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Bryan Combs; brother, Darrell Thompson; and grandson, Jared Braxton Thompson.  Surviving are two daughters, Joanna Combs (Teresa) of Lewisville, NC; Myra Combs of Westfield, NC; three sons, E.V. Thompson (Tracy) of Lewisville, NC; Tommy Thompson of King, NC; and Larry Holder of Pinnacle, NC; a brother, Dallas Wayne Thompson (Brenda) of Farmington, NC; also surviving are 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

A private family funeral service will be conducted on Friday followed by interment at Summerfield Cemetery in Fries, VA with Spence Robertson officiating.

The family would like to thank Dr. Vanessa Fant and the staff of Grayson Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Mountain Valley Hospice for the compassionate care they provided.
