Sherwood Roemerrell Richardson, aged 77, passed away on October 3, 2024 at Alleghany Memorial Hospital. He was born on August 5,1947 to the late Wade and Fontella Richardson. He grew up in Rugby, VA and went to Virginia Carolina High School. He made his family home in Independence, VA.

Sherwood is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty Haga Richardson; Daughters Dena Richardson (Bob Hennes) of Myrtle Beach, SC and Dawn Richardson (Travis Richardson) of Lansing, NC; granddaughters Bailey and Carlee Richardson of Lansing, NC. Also surviving are two sisters, Marla Phillips (Steve) of Rugby, VA and Sheretta (Louis) Conklin of Abingdon, VA and one brother, Marlin Richardson of Rugby, VA. Sherwood also leaves behind very special neighbors and their children, Russell and Vanessa Hollifield and Kingston, Mack and Misty Cassell and David and Joyce Anders.

Sherwood loved life and never met a stranger. He found his passion when he began his catering business over 20 years ago. He made many friends and fed many people over the years which brought him much joy. In addition to cooking, he was an avid hunter and fisherman throughout his life. The thing that brought him the most joy was being Poppy to his granddaughters and taking them to look for gemstones. Sherwood will be missed by his family and all who knew him.

The family will receive visitors at Reins Sturdivant Funeral Home in Independence, VA beginning at 2:00pm on Sunday, October 13, 2024 with the funeral service following at 3:00pm. Interment will take place immediately following the service at Haw Orchard cemetery. The Rev. Julian Owen will officiate.
