Shirley Jean Clyburn Mabe, age 79, of Independence, Virginia died on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at the Wake Forest Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. She was born in West Virginia on February 17, 1943, to Lydie Ellis and Emma Josephine Nunley Clyburn.
Mrs. Mabe will be remembered for her love of her family. She enjoyed cooking for them as long as her health permitted. She was a loyal family member enjoying her time with her brother and sisters. Prior to her decline in health, she enjoyed fishing and camping. She loved western movies and puzzle books. She loved recounting her traveling across the country experiences with family and friends. She was very happy with a good cup of coffee and always enjoyed sharing family pets.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by four sisters, Evelyn, Hazel, Lucille, and Joyce Ann.
Mrs. Mabe is survived by her two daughters, Tina and fiancé, Tim Cox of Elk Creek, Virginia and Katrina of Fires, Virginia; two sons, James and Randy of Independence, VA; one brother, Larry and Sally Clyburn of Hebron, VA; one sister, Irene and Dick Wilcox of Martinsville, VA; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; special friend, Patsy Blevins, of Independence, VA; special cousin, Dolly Hunt of Denton, NC; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside services will be conducted on Sunday, April 10, 2022, at 2:00 PM at the Brush Creek Cemetery with David VanHoy officiating. The family will receive friends at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home prior to the graveside service from 12:45-1:45 PM.
