Obituary

The Grassy Creek Community and the Senter Primitive Baptist Church joins the Weaver and Walters families in mourning the death of one of their most beloved members. Shirley Jean Walters Weaver, age, 79, cherished wife, mother, sister, and grandmother passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at the Northern Regional Hospital in Mt. Airy, NC. Born on April 22, 1943, in Crumpler, North Carolina, Jean was the daughter of Jim and Ina Jean Fender Walters who preceded her in death.  She attended Nathan's Creek Elementary School and graduated from Ashe Central High School.  She later attended Wilkes Community College.  She was a devoted member of the Senter Primitive Baptist Church.  Jean was a dedicated and supportive wife and a loving and caring mother and grandmother.  She retired after 33 years of service to the Ashe County School System as a cook at the Jefferson Elementary and the Mountain View Elementary schools.  The special attention and care shown to the youngsters of Ashe County was the same love and attention shown to her own family.  Her kindness has touched many young lives.  Jean was an excellent role model.  One of her daughters commented that she had never heard her mother say a negative word about anybody.  Jean's greatest joy was providing for her family.  Jean lived a life of simplicity and dignity never needing nor seeking approval or acceptance.  Her life was filled with honesty and integrity.  While her death has left a void that can never be filled, those who knew and loved her are greatly comforted in knowing that her life emulated the words of King Lemuel in Proverbs 31, "who can find a virtuous woman, her price is far above rubies."

Left to mourn her loss is her husband of 51 years, Dillard Weaver of the home; two loving and caring daughters, Sylvia and Brian Waight of Mt. Airy, NC and Edna Mae Weaver of North Wilkesboro, NC; her beloved grandson, Justin and Natali Waight of Mt. Airy, NC; one brother, John and Brenda Walters of Crumpler, NC; two sisters, Betty and Burl Carlton of Jefferson, NC and Glenna and Elder James McNeill of Crumpler, NC; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, July 18, 2022, at the Senter Primitive Baptist Church in the Nathan's Creek Community at 2:00 PM by Elder John Jackson and Elder Robert Shatley with the burial to follow in the Senter Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM prior to the funeral at the church.  While flowers are appreciated, memorial contributions may be made to the Senter Cemetery Fund C/O John and Diana Caldwell 482 Old Ridge Road Crumpler, NC 28617.

The family will be at the home on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons where friends may call at anytime.
