Shirley Jean Parsons, age 86, passed away on Friday, June 26, 2026. Born on February 24, 1940, in Blacksburg, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Carl Waitsel Winters Sr. and Elsie Idora Hungate Winters. She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Dan Winters, Waitsey Winters, Jo Ann Marsh, Ruth Sparks, Betty Lee Smith, Jack Winters, Earl Winters, Merle Winters, Glen Winters, and Jimmy Winters; and her beloved granddaughter, Sonya Lineberry.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Jim Parsons; her children, Debbie Lineberry, Sylvia Rudolph (Gary), Fred Adams III (Lisa), and Mark Adams (Deana); her grandchildren, Brandi Hyatt (Tayler), Leah Anders (Justin), Wayne Amburgey (Marquita), Kristen Adams, Kayla Duncan (Zach), Mark Adams Jr. (Alisha), Samantha Amburgey (Michaela), Fred Adams IV (Cassie), Chrystia Toleos (Matt), and Kenneth Jennings (Amy); her great-grandchildren, Phoenix Lineberry, Alexis Hill, Rylea Amburgey, Riley Anders, Logan Jennings, Abriella Amburgey, Gunnar Smith, Caydence Adams, Creedence Amburgey, and Fred Adams V; her siblings, Eddie Winters (Linda), Lilly Thomas (Larry), and Roscoe Winters (Joyce); her sister-in-law, Bytha Duncan; her special friend, Deena Hampton; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Remembering Shirley

Shirley. A mother, a sister, a wife, and an incredible granny. Shirley wasn't famous, and she probably would've laughed if we made her obituary sound too fancy. She was simply ours—a little sass, a whole lot of spunk, and the kind of woman who made life better just by being in it. She loved her family more than anything. She loved wandering the aisles of Dollar General and Family Dollar, somehow always finding one more thing she "needed." If she heard something shocking, she'd shake her head and say, "I hope imma never." And somehow, almost every sentence ended with, "…and everything." Those little sayings became part of our family's language, and now we'd give anything to hear them just one more time. After her stroke, we lost the sound of her voice, but we never lost her. Her smile, her spirit, and the love she had for all of us never changed. She taught us that the little things—a laugh, a shopping trip, a funny saying, or simply being together—are often the things we remember most. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, cherished sister, proud grandmother, and an incredible granny. Her greatest joy was always her family. We'll miss her every day. We'll miss her laugh, her stories, and hearing her tell us she couldn't eat something "on account of my diabetes." We'll carry those memories with us forever, and every time one of us says, "I hope imma never," we'll smile because we'll hear her saying it too.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to her devoted caregivers, Christy Walls, Kendra Long, and Missy Taylor, for the compassion, kindness, and exceptional care they provided throughout Shirley's journey. Their love, patience, and unwavering support brought comfort not only to Shirley but to our entire family. We will forever be grateful for the difference they made in her life and will always hold them close to our hearts. The family also extends their sincere appreciation to the compassionate staff of Mountain Valley Hospice for the exceptional care, comfort, and dignity they provided during Shirley's final days. Their kindness, guidance, and support were an incredible blessing to our family, and we will always be grateful for the love and compassion they showed.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home at 1:00 PM with Rev. Guy Russell officiating. Burial will follow in the Piney Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 PM.

The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, kindness, and support shown during this difficult time.
