Steven Lynn Henkle, age, 70 of Fries, Virginia passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC. Born to Wayne and Margaret Henkle on July 6, 1955, Steven learned about dedication and honor at an early age. He dedicated his life to the service of his country joining the United States Marine Corps in 1976 serving until 1979 with an honorable discharge. He immediately joined the United States Army in 1979 and continued service for 20 years until his retirement. In his retirement years he enjoyed fishing and motorcycle riding, but most of all he enjoyed his time spent with his dog, Max. He delighted in time spent with his grandchildren and always made time for them!
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Irene Floyd and brother-in-law, Roger Horton and Jimmy Lineberry.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Henkle of the home; two sons, Douglas and Melissa Johnson of Ft. Chiswel, VA and Matthew Johnson of Fries, VA; four grandsons Cheyenne Johnson, Dillon Johnson, Nickolas Johnson, and Joshua Hall; two granddaughters, Arizona Johnson and Shannon Reeves; one great grandson, Asher Johnson; four siblings, Judy and Greg Ternes of Missouri, David and Terry Henkle of Colorado, Curtis and Karen Henkle of Colorado and Mark and Carolyn Henkle 0f Arkansas; mother-in-law, Mary Horton of Fries, VA; brothers-in-law George Floyd, Harold Horton and Kristi, Gerald and Jackie Horton, Wayne Horton, Frankie Horton and Nichelle, William and Tina Horton; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Lineberry and Norma and Dennis Stone; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, January 9, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with Pastor Cheyenne Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Summerfield cemetery with military honors presented by the Grayson VFW Post #7726 and the United States Army.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Summerfield Cemetery C/O Ann Hodges 138 Springwood Lane Fries, VA 24330.
