Mr. William Charles "Bill" Wilson, age 88, of Independence, Virginia died on Saturday, April 16, 2022, at his home.  He was born in Smyth County, Virginia in the Sugar Grove community on June 3, 1933, to Roy Martin Wilson and Ester Gray Medley Wilson.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters- in -law, Earnest Norman Sheets, Dorkes Dean Sheets, and Burlie Sheets Dolinger, Della Sheets Dolinger, Una Gray Sheets Hensley, Joy Rae Sheets Taylor; half-sisters-in-law, Virginia Brooks, Josephine Pipes, Edith Pugh, and Pauline Martin.

Mr. Wilson was a member of Comer's Creek Baptist Church where he enjoyed singing.  He was a devoted husband for 66 years.  He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving two years in the US Army and 10 months in Korea. In his retirement years, he enjoyed fishing from his pontoon boat on Claytor Lake.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Bertie Sheets Wilson of the home, three brothers, Roger Lee Wilson, Dennis Wilson, and Ricky Wilson, all of Independence, VA; brother-in-law, Avery Willard Sheets of Dobson, NC; sisters-in-law, Jannelle Buffkin of Reedsville, NC; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Comer's Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Miller and Rev. Tim Barr officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors performed by the Marion VFW Post #4667.
