William Claude (Buck) Hash was born September 7, 1927, to Lilly Clyde Holcomb and Charlie Paul Hash in Independence, VA. He resided in Independence, VA, for 59 years with his wife Mary Frances (Jackie) until her passing in 2007. He was a lifelong member of Chestnut Hill Baptist Church and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.

He was also a charter member of the Independence Rescue Squad and served the community for many years. He will forever be known as "the oil man," as he delivered oil to Grayson County residents until he retired.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Frances (Jackie) Hash, his daughter Claudette Hash Dixon, sisters Frances Bourne, Alma Hash, June Byrd, and his brothers Tuck and Wayne Hash.

He is survived by his second wife, Blanche Holdaway Hash; a son and daughter-in-law, Charlie (Danny) and Sharmane; a son-in-law, Brent Dixon, all of Independence. Three grandchildren; Meichelle (Mike) Phipps of Elk Creek, VA, Justin (Leighann) Dixon of Independence, VA, and Candice Dixon of Mouth of Wilson, VA; four great-grandchildren; Coy Walls, Dane Phipps, Dayton Dixon, and Lydia Dixon; stepson, Lee Parks (Lisa) Mouth of Wilson, VA; two sisters, Wilma Hash and Helen Waller; sister-in-law, Catherine Hash; a multitude of nieces and nephews; special caregiver, Carlene Carico; special friend, Ed Blevins.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, January 10, 2025, at Reins~Sturdivant Funeral at 11:00 AM Rev. David Osborne and speaker Justin Dixon officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service.
