The Cox's Chapel Community was deeply saddened with the sudden and unexpected death of one of its beloved community members, William "Bill" G. Cox on June 16, 2022.  He was born to Munsey Fields and Dorothy Elizabeth Wooten Cox on February 2, 1944, in the Cox's Chapel Community in Mouth of Wilson, VA, where he was nurtured and exposed to a host of values that supported and sustained him throughout his lifetime.  Following a successful 30-year career in the management of Texaco Oil Company, he was delighted to return to his Cox's Chapel Community in Grayson County where he was revered as a loyal friend and a servant to mankind.  He will be remembered as a kind-hearted and compassionate leader who found great joy in providing for his family and his community.  He was described by his brother, Dennis, as "bull-headed and independent."  He was devoted to his family, his friends, his church, and his country.  He served in the US Air Force from 1962-1966 during the Vietnam War.   Following his Air Force service, he was in the US Army National Guard for seven years. He was a devoted Christian, who loved the Church, God's Word, and the Lord Jesus Christ.  In recent weeks, he and his wife donated property for the expansion of the Cox's Chapel Cemetery where he will take his place joining several generations of his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry Cox and David Cox.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Cox of New Orleans, LA; one daughter, Tawnia and Bill Pendergast of Deltona, FL; two sons, Sam and Elisabeth Cox of Winter Springs, FL and John and Shannon Cox of Clinton, TN; one sister, Joyce and Danny Carico of Mouth of Wilson, VA; three brothers, Bobby and Becky  Cox of Christiansburg, VA, Troy and Cheryl Cox of Woodlawn, VA, and Dennis and Jane Cox of Mouth of Wilson, VA; twelve grandchildren, Madison, Bedford, Isom, Josiah, Haddon, Sophronia, Obadiah, Courtney, William, Stormie, Morgan and Ashley; two great-grandchildren, Jasmine and Damon; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at 11:00 AM with the Rev. David Serven and John Munsey Cox officiating.  The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 prior to the funeral at the church.  Burial will follow with military rites by Grayson County VFW Post #7726 at the Cox's Chapel Cemetery.
