Obituary

William R. "Bill" Wright (age 67) The very humble and modest Jack-of-all-trades renaissance man Bill Wright passed away on Sunday, 12/25/2022 at his home in Manassas after losing a battle with cancer. Bill was born to the late James K. Wright, Jr., a career Navy Man, and Aileen P. Wright a teacher, at Quonset Point Naval Air Station, R.I. in early 1955. Upon retiring from the navy, the family relocated to a small farm in Independence, VA, where Bill learned to care for a small herd of beef cattle as well as self teaching himself leatherwork and how to play the drums. After finishing high school Bill went to Radford College, getting a B.A. in Science in 1978 and an M.S. in Art from Radford University in 1983. Other achievements are inclusion in Who's Who in American High School Students in 1978 and acceptance in Phi Kappa Phi, a scholastic honorary society in 1983. Upon graduation from Radford University, Bill relocated to Northern Virginia and spent over 28 years in the field of graphic design, taking on many divergent projects, covering everything from watercolor commissions to book jackets, annual reports to materials for Washington sports teams charitable foundations. Although his passion was art, he spent five years as owner/operator of a billiard parlor which was another of his favorite hobbies. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed other activities such as gardening, baseball, leatherwork, pottery, ping pong, and photography. Bill was preceded in death by his brother, James K. Wright III. He is survived by his son, Nicholas Wright of the home, nephew Jason Wright of Apollo Beach, FL as well as many family and friends. In lieu of flowers please make donations to a charity of the donors choice. Graveside services will be held Saturday, April 29, 2023 at the Independence Cemetery in Independence, VA at 11:00 AM with Rev. Jimmy Hall officiating.
