Obituary

Willie Ray Walls, age 87, of the Mouth of Wilson Community, passed away in the early morning hours of Tuesday, April 8, 2025.  Ray was born on May 13, 1937, in Mouth of Wilson to Chester Lee and Gertie Mae Perkins Walls. He was a graduate of Virginia Carolina High School and later joined the United States Army for 4 years where he served in the Korean Conflict.  Following his military service went to Maryland and worked at Bethlehem Steel for 10 years and returned home to Grayson following the death of his father.  He worked for Lee Furniture in Chilhowie, VA and Pendry Manufacturing as well as Kraft Foods.  In his retirement he enjoyed gardening and canning and preserving the harvest.  He was talented at mechanical work.  Ray enjoyed a modest life adhering to a creed of honesty, simplicity, and integrity.  He was dedicated to his family.  He loved his community and was supportive of all community events especially those that involved the performance of local musicians. He was a member of Little Wilson Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Garl Walls, Sr.; sister and brother-in-law, Gladys and Robert "Bob" Coolidge; sister, Glenna Lee Walls; nephew, Elbert Lee Walls; great-nephew Louis Clark Charapich.

Ray is survived by his sister-in-law, Rhonda Richardson Walls of Mouth of Wilson, VA; 2 nieces Cynthia and Chuck Collier of Newark, Delaware and Regenia and Mark Charapich of Chilhowie, VA; nephews, Robert Lee Coolidge of Newark Delaware, Joseph G. Walls, Jr. and Amy of Mouth of Wilson, VA; great-nephew, Timothy Charapich; great niece, Kelly Charapich; great-nephews, Robert (RJ) Collier, Cody Collier (Lizzie) both of Delaware; great-great- Nephew, Landon Collier, of Newark Delaware; also surviving are a host of cousins, friends, and the Little Wilson Church Family.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at 2:00 at the Little Wilson Methodist Church with Pastor Mike Newman, Rev. Dusty Reedy, and Rev. Doug Halsey officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will follow with military honors conducted by the United States Army and the Grayson County VFW Post #7726.

The family request no food or visitation at the home.  Flowers are appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to the Little Wilson Cemetery Fund C/O Toby Sells 490 Teasterwood Road Mouth of Wilson, VA or Rugby Rescue Squad 53 Rugby Road Mouth of Wilson, VA 24363.  Reins Sturdivant Funeral Home is serving the Walls family.
