Wilton Curtis Dolinger, age 91, of Independence, Virginia died on June 22, 2022, at the Commonwealth Senior Living Center in Hillsville, Virginia.    He was born on September 24, 1930, in Princewick, West Virginia (Raleigh County) to Edgar W. and Lola Blevins Dolinger.  As a young man he was called to serve his country during the Korean Conflict.  He was awarded an honorable discharge in June of 1953.  He was married to Delores Taylor who was a loyal and devoted wife and mother for 67 years. She preceded him in death in June 2020.  Wilton ran a successful insurance business in Independence for over 40 years.  As a dedicated businessman, he was active in the Lion's Club, New River Wildlife Club, and the Grayson County VFW Post #7726 where his wife was a charter member of the Grayson VFW Post #7726 Auxiliary.  Wilton was a co-founder of the Grayson County Fiddler's Convention.  He was often involved in community projects and was especially proud of his contributions in recruiting a full-time medical professional in Independence.  He was an advocate for local children, often seeing to their medical needs through the Lion's Club or other organizations and providing transportation for treatment.  Wilton and Delores continued their loyalty to the youth of Independence by supporting the Independence High School football program and the band boosters.  They attended all games and enjoyed working concessions.  His own two children remember that they were reared in a disciplined and loving home.  They were able to benefit from their mother's and father's love of travel.  Their summer vacations were filled with travels throughout the United States and Canada.  In their retirement years, Wilton and Delores wintered in Florida, for as long as their health permitted.  Wilton was an active member of the VFW honor guard attending countless military funerals.  Their love of Grayson County and the Independence community helped to make a positive impact on the area.

In addition to his parents and beloved wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronda Lee Dolinger and Billy J. Dolinger; two sisters, Alene D. Crigger Graham and Barbara D. Kidd.

He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer D. Snow and Gwyn Cornette of Independence, Virginia; son, Wilton Curtis Dolinger, Jr. of Marion, Virginia; two grandchildren, Wilton Curtis Dolinger, III and Heather D. Branscome both of Marion.

The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel in Independence.  Graveside committal services for Wilton and Delores Dolinger will take place on Tuesday afternoon, June 28, 2022, at 2:00 PM at the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Chilhowie, Virginia (1183 St. Clair's Creek Road) with Dennis Cox and the Grayson VFW Post #7726 officiating.
