Woodrow Willey
Wright
March 10, 1954 — April 19, 2025
Woodrow Willey Wright, age 71, of the Elk Creek Community passed away Saturday April 19, 2025, at the Wake Forest Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC with his family by his side. He was born March 10, 1954, in Wytheville, Virginia to James Woodrow and Francis Sue Corvin Wright.
Woody was a self-employed farmer and heavy equipment operator. He was a farmer at heart who nurtured a life-long love for animals. He loved his community of Elk Creek and was a neighbor who was always willing to help his friends. His shop was a gathering spot for the men in the community. He was described as the "King of Elk Creek." He was known as a man of few words, but his family recalled, "when he spoke, everybody listened!" He always faced adversity and persevered through whatever obstacle got in his way. His ability to adapt and excel in any demanding situation, earned him the title of "Superman" which he embraced. He loved shag dancing and was always at home with beach music! Christmas was a favorite holiday where he always commented on Lynda's "extreme decorating," but was always around to store things up for the next year! He loved camping and enjoyed many camping excursions with his family. He enjoyed good food and was always willing to compliment the cook! Woody was a very thankful and appreciative person who never failed to say, "thank you." While it is impossible to mention all the attributes of this remarkable life, it must be said that his love for his family; his wife, his children, and his grandchildren superseded everything else. Woody and Lynda first discussed marriage at ages 14 and 15. They have been life-long soulmates. Being a "Pop-Pop" to his four grandchildren was among his greatest pleasures. The Wright family and the Elk Creek Community have suffered an insurmountable loss that is shared across Southwestern Virginia. However, while they acknowledge the sadness of the loss, they celebrate the enduring nature of the good deeds and the positive influence that he has left behind.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lynda Wright of the home; one daughter, Laura and Jeremy Davis of Salem, VA; one son, Jordan and Tayler Wright of Elk Creek, VA; four grandchildren, Hayley Davis and Luke Davis both of Salem, VA and Trenton Wright and Emerson Wright both of Elk Creek; sister-in-law, Debbie Miller of Elk Creek; and two fur babies, Ivy and Mocha; a host of extended friends and associates also survive.
Memorial services will be conducted on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at 6:30 PM at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel with speakers, Chris Anders and Colby Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends form 4:00-6:30 prior to the funeral at the funeral home.
