This is the most personal of decisions.  The service may be at our funeral home, a place of worship, or graveside.  The service may vary based on religious affiliation or the wishes of the family.  A private service is by invitation only, and a memorial service occurs without the body present and at the date of the family's choosing.  All services may be personalized, celebrating the uniqueness of the loved one's life.

A public viewing is a deep part of our traditions and cultural customs, and many grief specialists believe that a viewing permits the comfort and support that comes from shared grief.  A viewing also aids in accepting the reality of the death of a loved one as a truly significant loss.

An obituary is a vital way to let friends and your community know of your loss. The funeral home will post the obituary on their website and submit it to area news sources. You may choose to write it yourself or ask for the funeral home staff to compose it for you. 

Cremation does not preclude a change in your service options. You may choose to have a visitation period as well as the type of service you choose. Cremation is simply an alternative way of disposition, and you may choose to bury or scatter the ashes.

Directors do have administrative responsibilities for all families.  They file necessary paperwork, transport the deceased, prepare for the disposition of the body, and implement the family's funeral choices.  They also are trained caregivers providing emotional support, answering questions about grief, and suggesting additional sources of support, both physical and financial.  Reins-Sturdivant has extended contact with the family long after the service.

We are able to assist with your arrangements from anywhere you may be.  Contact us at276-773-2521with your location and your needs.  We will work with a local funeral director who will act as our agent.

Not necessarily.  There are certain factors that determine the need to embalm, such as time, health, and state or local legal requirements.  We will be able to assist you in making these determinations.

No, they are not.  There is a base fee for the director's responsibility in making arrangements, filing forms, dealing with doctors, ministers, media, florists, etc.  Additional costs vary based on merchandise the family chooses, transportation, and the number and location of the funeral services.  The Reins-Sturdivant staff will assist you in these arrangements.

- Advance Directives.  These are requests made by the deceased concerning disposition, service requests and memorials.  They may be found in the will, a specific and separate document, or pre-arranged documentation with the funeral home.

- Details on cemetery property or columbarium owned by the deceased or family.

- Any personal items you wish to be included in the viewing and/or burial such as jewelry, mementos, or photographs.
