Known for his respect for cultural heritage, David manages Reins-Sturdivant with the Dan Walters legacy ever-present. At the same time, he has woven his own warmth and compassion into this historic tapestry.
A native of Grayson County, David knows and respects the people he serves. He engages families in the process of honoring a lost loved one, providing guidance and comfort to those who grieve. His honesty and sincerity are tantamount to his commitment to his work and his purpose.

Michelle McNeil VanHoy
Office Manager
Since 2021, Michelle has partnered with her husband, David, in managing the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.
She brings with her a rich professional background with business and non-profit/service experience. As an entrepreneur, Michelle has a practical, hands - on knowledge of financial and managerial intricacies of operating a business – skills which serve her well in assuming the daily operations of the funeral home.
Combine this with her work at Samaritan’s Purse, the non-denominational charity in service to the world, and Michelle is a reflection of the Reins-Sturdivant mission of serving families with dignity and respect.

Daniel Viers
Funeral Assistant
Daniel has always taken the work at the funeral home quite seriously. At the age of 6, he walked to the local funeral home in West Jefferson, NC to see if there was a way to “be of help”. That sense of helping others has not diminished. Often described as an old soul, Daniel has been a dedicated servant as a CNA and as a servant in his church.
Daniel, the musician is frequently invited to provide music at the services of those who come to Reins-Sturdivant.
To further assure his place in his work, Daniel is currently a student at Gupton-Jones School of Funeral Services in Atlanta, Georgia.

Randy McGrady

At the age of 9, Randy experienced the death of his father. This memory has remained with him and ultimately led to his work at Reins-Sturdivant. His history with this funeral home extends for many decades, as every family death has been honored by those who have worked here.
Retired from the retail industry, Randy finally followed his passion to fruition. He finds both challenge and reward as he learns all aspects of the business, finding that service to the family is first and foremost. He now personally continues his family’s respect for the compassion shown throughout the history of Reins-Sturdivant.

Glenn Hyatt

As a relative newcomer, Glenn has become a valuable member of the Reins-Sturdivant family.
Glenn is a retired Grayson County deputy and investigator and is often a family’s first face seen in their home. His training in law enforcement has prepared him to assist the family in this initial phase of loss.
Glenn views the passing of a loved one as an opportunity to celebrate the life of a cherished friend or family member – a meaningful ritual that grants the sharing of personal memories.
Glenn’s respect for the work he does was inspired by a brother-in-law and these earlier thoughts about serving others in this capacity has become a reality.

Elder Hurt is the epitome of genuine grace. As a pastor, he has lived a life of helping others, providing comfort, support and hope. He describes himself as a “people person” and often finds himself visiting families during the early stages of loss and grief.
This personal perspective, combined with his faith, is a reflection of the courtesy, empathy and respect he extends to the families who have lost a loved one…and the loved one lost. His presence at Reins-Sturdivant is a true source of comfort.

As a retired supervisor, Donald realizes the importance of effective communication skills vital in exchanges with both clients and staff. Listening is the key to understanding and assisting the families he serves. He clearly hears and responds to the diversified needs of all who seek support, finding a place of comfort for them. Donald always strikes a balance between his personal feelings and professional responsibilities.
Inspired by his grandson to engage in funeral work, Donald has found a home at Reins-Sturdivant, valuing the sincere and caring atmosphere found among his coworkers.

Migrating from the Shenandoah Valley into southwestern Virginia was, for Ellen, “coming home.” Her roots in southwestern Virginia extend for generations.
Following years of working in the insurance business and serving as a Methodist lay speaker, Ellen has transferred valuable communication and organizational skills in service to Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home. Even though she “never saw it coming”, Ellen finds her role at the funeral home to be gratifying, surrounded by a caring staff. “It is rewarding to know that we are taking care of business as our part of loss and as an important way of serving grieving families.”
Ellen brings to her position an exceptional level of professionalism combined with a strong sense of commitment and caring.

Elissa was born and raised in Grayson County, her family having moved to the area from Texas. She therefore has a special appreciation for the beauty of the area and the kindness of the people. This is reflected not only in how much she values being able to support “behind the scenes” at Reins-Sturdivant, but also in her volunteer work in both Bible education and supporting disaster relief efforts.
Although having a background in technology and accounting, Elissa’s focus has always been on people – helping them to be able to utilize and thrive in new and changing methods and times. She has been assisting with the office and paperwork at Reins-Sturdivant for many years, having had the privilege of working with Mr. and Mrs. Walters and of being able to assist with the transition to the current management.
